Data Sharing
How It Works
The Shearing Board™ captures real compliance and operational data from shearing operations across New Zealand and Australia. Here's exactly what we do with it, and how you stay in control.
Your default setting is Anonymous
When you sign up, your account is set to Anonymous sharing by default. This means:
- — Your operational data (tallies, welfare logs, compliance records) contributes to aggregated industry statistics
- — Your name, farm name, property identification code, and any other identifying information is never included
- — Nobody can identify you or your farm from the shared data
You can change this at any time — or turn it off entirely.
The three settings explained
Nothing leaves the platform. Your data is only visible to you, your contractor (if you are a farmer), and your employer (if you are a staff member). No external sharing of any kind.
Aggregated, de-identified metrics contribute to industry reporting. Think of it like a census — the overall numbers matter, but individuals aren't identified. Wool industry bodies, government agencies, and researchers may receive this data. Your name and farm are never included.
Your full compliance data — including farm name, certifications, and audit evidence — can be shared with the assurance scheme bodies relevant to your certifications (for example ZQ, NZFAP, RWS, NWD). This is useful if you want the platform to automatically support your certification audits. Both the contractor and the farmer must have Identified sharing enabled for a farm's data to be shared this way.
Who might receive anonymous data?
- — Wool industry bodies (e.g. AWEX, Beef+Lamb NZ, Wool Week)
- — Government agencies (e.g. MPI, Agriculture Victoria)
- — Assurance scheme administrators
- — Agricultural research organisations
None of these organisations receive identifying information in the anonymous feed.
Who might receive identified data?
Only the assurance scheme bodies relevant to the schemes your farm is certified under — and only when both the contractor and the farmer have explicitly enabled Identified sharing for that farm.
How to change your setting
Business Settings → Data Sharing
Farm record → Data Sharing, or Farmer Portal → Settings
You can change your setting at any time. Changing to Private stops any future sharing immediately.
